The Henry W. Myrtle Gallery carries a wide variety of works of differing media by various artists around the country.

Aaron Brummer

Aaron is an Iowa City, Iowa native. He attended the University of Iowa where he studied Ceramics, Metalsmithing and Painting. He graduated with a Bachelors in Fine Arts in 2007 emphasizing in Ceramics and Painting.

While traditional Art programs often emphasize the use of oil paint, Aaron had the good fortune to study with Michael Perrone, Tova Carlin, Bunny McBride and Chunghi Choo; world renowned Professors and Artists while at the U of I. He learned early on that he had a way of pushing the limits of a medium that was different from his peers. When assignments to paint a realistic picture of a table setting turned into geometric shapes layered in "un-realistic" colors his work was often scoffed at by peers and purists, but his mentors encouraged him to develop his unique vision of the world.

Aaron's most recent area of work is what he likes to call Anti-Realism Portraiture. Each painting represents a person as the artist interprets them and is given a pseudo-name to protect the subject's identity. Sometimes the paintings convey how the person makes him feel, but most often they express the personality and "life" given off by the subject.
