John Jago

John Jago - Cedar Falls, Iowa

Jago, a Waterloo native and critically acclaimed figure sculptor studied art at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Jago received a full scholarship to Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, where he obtained his fine arts degree. He began working at a foundry in northern Arizona producing fine art sculptures. He later became the pour master before being lured to Loveland, Colorado where he founded his own company, Preferred Finishing. He spent 10 years refining his skills and worked with many artists.
In the years that followed, Jago was employed in Monterey, Calif., hiring and training an artist's staff in all phases of production. In the midst of the work, he suddenly realized he wanted to dedicate himself to creating his own artwork. Critics have described his work as "emotionally charged" and "some of the most fresh and innovative figurative work being done."
Jago has been commissioned to create numerous sculptures in the Cedar Valley. His bronze sculpture of the former First Lady, Lou Henry Hoover, is located in the Lou Henry Hoover Sculpture Garden, the original site of the Henry family home in Waterloo, Ia. Other commissioned work in the Cedar Valley include a life-sized sculpture of Abraham Lincoln for Lincoln Elementary School, Cedar Falls, Ia; a larger than life-sized bust of Martin Luther King Jr. and life-sized sculpture of Dan Gabel for West High School, Waterloo, Ia.
